      Tighten things up to super small areas. Even taking one step helps. Also, nice weather head to a tennis court with a Stickhandling ball or green biscuit. Even better if you have roller blades. Always a way to get it done!

      Once in a while, sure. But you’ll have way more success moving the puck if a player is open, and continuing to join the rush with speed. Don’t have anyone open and have room to skate? Keep skating!

    there is always a nice option to start skating with the puck towards the center, but if there are no good options to continue you can turn back and do a re-group, using a pass to the other D and gain some time for Fs to come back. Thats a nice way to control the puck and start dictating your teams preferred pace of the game.

  • @jjns3991624

    The center should be backing up the strong side defenseman. So if the strong side d man gets beat the center should be in a position stop that forward not the weak side d man. D zone coverage is usually a 3 on 3 below the hash marks. Offensive team has three forwards and defensive team has 2 d men and a center. This video addresses it like it’s a straight 2 on 2 which doesn’t really happen once all players are in the d zone.

    Uggg having a hard time trying to help our defence with number 2 at low peewee level. This kids would be great if checking was allowed. USA doesn't allow checking. And play the body is hard since kids need to be playing the puck in order to make body contact. So kids kind of need to watch puck in order to legit be playing the puck when making contact but because of that they are not watching the body and making a poke check while trying to make contact and getting burned. When they play the body straight up it's getting called every single time. How do others train this for 12u?

    • @CoachZac
      @CoachZac 2 месяца назад

      They don’t need to hit, but you can still put your body in front of the other player. Practice it, just allowing the puck carrier to initiate contact because the defender is in a great position, and staying strong on the skates. Another option is to wait for the forward to choose which side they are going to try and beat you on, and going through their hands/stick.

    As a winger on the boards, taking that peek up at the blueline to look off that defenseman is key. Psychologically, when they are aware that *you* are aware of where they are ... they are more prone to back off rather than be aggressive.

    I've always been a playmaker. Problem is, at some level people expected me to be a gamechanger or a sniper, but I'm not. I have an average shot and I'm not the best skater, I just create good opportunities for everyone but I can't do it by myself most of the time. Honestly it's frustrating, so I'm working on my killer instinct.

    • @CoachZac
      @CoachZac 2 месяца назад

      Keep doing what you do best and work a little bit every week and leveling up your weaknesses. Improving your skating and shooting will also make a huge impact on your ability to be a better playmaker as well.

My current training plan (22 years old) is skating/hockey drills, speed training (sprints/acceleration), plyometrics, and lifting (2 lifts for each body part, so like about an equal workload for various muscles), 3 times a week 1 hr 30 min-2 hrs for each one. I stretch after each session. Please let me know if i should do anything different
